UK self publishing

Hi all,

Does anyone know anything about self publishing in the UK?

My father is in the throes of publishing a book through Authorhouse.co.uk -
on the topic of the Victorian sculptor Sir Thomas Brock. Authorhouse has
just told them that they're shutting down their UK operation and he (and the
project's sponsor) are now wondering if they should switch to another
publisher.

If you've got any good (or bad) experiences or ideas in this area, I'd love
to hear about them.
